WITELO is a joint program by the PZU Group and the National Centre for Research and Development, implemented under patronage of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the Ministry of Economic Development
The concept is to build a venture capital ecosystem in Poland, which will benefit investors and advanced technology companies from around the world. By investing as a limited partner in leading international VC funds around the world as well as through direct co-investment in portfolio companies in Poland, WITELO creates a set of incentives making the creation of VC projects in Poland more attractive than ever.
The name of the project refers to Witelo, a scientist from Silesia, son of a Polish woman and a settler from Thuringia, who was born ca. 1230, probably in Legnica, and died around 1300.
He wrote about himself:
In nostra terra, scilicet Polonia
- from our land, that is Poland
He was one of the most eminent European scientists of the Middle Age period and the first universally recognized Polish scientist.
